The pilgrimages that will take place in Ireland will be in most cases one day walks. With the exception of some sites where there will be an open option of joining into a longer pilgrimage.
The walks are a mindful meditation and they are in silence as the purpose of these days for prayer is to excercise inner reflection. As we allow the body to stay focus on the experience of walking, the mind is given freedom to move and fluctuate in its own space, as this happens we can bare witness to the raising and subsiding of thought patterns, emotional reactions, emotional states and mystical experiences and connection with our inner self. As we walk consciously we cleanse the mind and the body allowing the intention of ‘peace’ to be the underlying current that sustains and holds the group and the individual.
‘Walking for Peace’ is an active prayer and discipline focused on attaining inner ‘peace’, a state of mind and being where acceptance and freedom from suffering prevail.
Walking for Peace Éire began on November 19th 2011 in Slieve Gullion and completes it cycle on September 29th 2012 in Uisneach. In this way the walk follows the wheel of the Celtic calendar; opening after Samhain in the time of darkness and moving into the winter solstice, journeying into the Spring light of Imbolg and eventually finding the warmth of the Summer Solstice after making its way through the Equinox and Beltaine. The Pilgrimage will celebrate the harvest at the time of Lughnasa and move through the Autumn Equinox before completion at Uisneach in September 2012 in time for the New Year again at Samhain.

When this is happens consciously and with the intention of healing we open up to clear the body from emotional, intellectual and physical stagnant energies. As we individually walk the silence takes us into an inner space of introspection and connection with the collective consciousness (Spirit). Every site has its own history and energy and as we conciously connect with the different places we are connecting with a space beyond linear time where we can commune with the ancestors and the memories of the land. Ritual is always part of the pilgrimage to help us move the energy of our bodies and the collective energy of the land.
